Red, White & Blue
Fire Protection District

Serving the communities of Breckenridge, Blue River, and surrounding areas of Summit County since 1882, the Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, hazardous materials response, and fire prevention programs.

With over 50 career and volunteer personnel, the district covers approximately 110 square miles of mountain terrain, protecting residents and visitors year-round. Every dollar raised at this fundraiser goes directly toward equipment, training, and community safety programs.

A horse-drawn wagon rolls through the heart of Breckenridge during its mining heyday. The same rugged spirit that built this town lives on in the volunteers who protect it today.

1859

The Gold Rush Begins

Prospectors discover gold along the Blue River, sparking a rush that would establish Breckenridge as one of Colorado's earliest mining camps. Within months, hundreds of fortune-seekers flood the valley.

1880

Breckenridge Incorporated

After two decades of booming growth, Breckenridge officially incorporates as a town. Main Street buzzes with saloons, general stores, and assay offices serving the mining community.

1882

Fire District Established

Recognizing the dangers of fire in a town built of timber, local citizens band together to form what would become the Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District -- one of the oldest in the Colorado high country.

1961

A New Era: Ski Country

Breckenridge Ski Resort opens its slopes, transforming the quiet mining town into a world-class mountain destination. The fire district's mission expands to protect a rapidly growing year-round population.

Protecting 110 Square Miles

The RWB Fire Protection District now covers 110 square miles of Summit County terrain with over 50 career and volunteer personnel, responding to 2,500+ calls per year across Breckenridge, Blue River, and the surrounding backcountry.

Lower Blue Lake

Nestled in the mountains just south of Breckenridge at over 9,300 ft elevation. Dress warmly -- it will be cold and beautiful.

From Breckenridge

Head south on CO-9 for about 7 miles. The lake is on the east side of the highway near Blue River.
